More About
Ewie Kusnadi
Although practicing from a very young age, it was in 1999 that Ewie began to truly express his emotions on canvas. Mostly self-taught, his discipline was honed as part of a wonderful atelier community organized by Pak Teguh at the Teguh Gallery in Jakarta, Indonesia. The only formal studies he pursued were summer school sessions at the Rhode Island School of Design in Rome.
His artwork has been exhibited in Indonesia, Australia, Italy, Ukraine, Russia, and Switzerland. Through his art, Ewie challenges the world to understand and respect the beauty of the human figure, irrespective of shape, size, color, race, religion, or sexual orientation. He believes there is an innocence to be found in each person and hopes to capture this through his art.
Exploring the human figure is a central theme in his work. Ewie believes that the human body, in all its forms, tells us a unique story and evokes emotional expressions. By appreciating the diverse beauty of the human figure, he aims to foster a deeper understanding and connection among people. His art invites viewers to see beyond the surface and appreciate the unique stories that each figure tells.
"I use emotions found in poetry to see the human forms and their movements I paint onto canvas. These feelings create stories about conditions of life that speak for themselves. See, listen, and enjoy."
His goal is to help people be who they are, with nothing to hide, and in doing so, to become who they are meant to be.
